Charles Mingus—master of the double bass, pianist, band leader, composer and vocalist. Certainly the most spiritual of jazz musicians. It is difficult to separate Charles Mingus from the legend that has grown up around him since he first hit the jazz scene in the 1940s. When he died, his widow took his ashes to India and scattered them in the Ganges. Viva la Mingus.
