Memorial. There is nothing quite as tragic as the creative genius struck down in his prime. This painting celebrates the fallen painter Jean-Michel Basquiat (died 1988, age 27) and the jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown (died 1930, age 25). Clifford Brown died just shy of his 26th birthday, but not before establishing himself as one of the most influential of all jazz trumpeters. The work that these two artists left behind is made more valuable knowing that it is all we will ever get.
