Derick Crenshaw was drawing as soon
as he was old enough to hold a pencil. He was always considered "the Artist"
by classmates and teachers as he was growing up. Educated in Advertising
Design, Derick was soon doing illustrations for advertising where he earned
the title of Master Pictorial Artist. His illustration career and success span
over twenty years, earning numerous regional and national awards, including
"Best in Show" in the regional Addy Awards and "Gold" in the national Addy's.
After accruing a number of commissioned portraits and paintings, Derick left
the life of illustration in early 2003 to paint his magic for the world.
Derick
was showing his art publicly as early as the 5th Grade and at the age of 17,
he was invited to show at the prestigious Piedmont Arts Festival in Atlanta,
Georgia. At 19 Derick was featured in a one-man exhibit at the University of
Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Derick was accepted and showed at the renowned
Southport Show In Southport, N.C. He has had many private shows by invitation
in his studio gallery. Derick is orginally from Atlanta, Georgia, having moved
to Wilmington, NC, in 1984, and considers the coast his home.
Derick
has the drive and talent to be one of the most important artists of our era.
Derick now paints a diverse number of subject matter, but favors human form
and figure and what he refers to as "peopled landscapes." He considers his
style of painting to be "contemporary realism." Derick has a way of catching
the inspiration of character of people as they go about their daily lives.
